About Me
I am a first generation Bangladeshi American writer and nonprofit consultant. I have dedicated over 6 years to the nonprofit industry, channeling my energy to support organizations led by women of color. My heart lies in community building and social change. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Asian American Studies from Cornell University. I am currently earning my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Louisiana State University.
In 2020, I began to think deeply about how I can make a positive impact on my community. Drawing from my years of experience working with vulnerable and under-resourced communities, I saw how much there was a need for funding for services. I began to write grants for local community efforts, such as a health screening for Muslim immigrants in my community. I was able to raise $2,000 through private and individual giving, leading to a screening of over 500 community members.
In 2021, I began to work in fundraising in a more formal setting as a Development Assistant for Laal NYC, a women-led nonprofit in the Bronx which provides resources for Bangladeshi women. Here, I quickly progressed from Development Assistant to Development Coordinator, raising a total of $1 million through individual giving and local, private, and federal funders.
In 2022, I started to work as an independent consultant with Funding for Social Change. Here, I worked with nonprofit clients across the United States, focusing on social justice, equity, and women’s rights. I raised over $500,000 for small, BIPOC-led nonprofits such as Tia's Place, Creating Freedom Movements, and Womanly.
My Philosophy
I work primarily with small and mid-sized nonprofits who often don’t have the time and resources to dedicate to development. Part of my job is learning what the clients’ specific needs are and to create a long-term strategy that is sustainable. The other part is to educate the client and connect them with resources that can assist them. I believe in leading with grace, consistency, and understanding. I assume the best of my clients and respect the vulnerability, trust, and communication it takes to create a working relationship.
Let’s Collaborate!
What makes my services different is my lived experiences as a first generation immigrant. My experiences taught me to be resilient, reliant and persistent. I understand the needs of emerging nonprofits and work within available budgets and capacities to produce tangible results. I am committed to the success of your organization.
